Another working mom moment.

My life as a working mom is a cycle of ups and downs. Some days I couldn't imagine my life without work, a life without the structure and accountability that work provides. And then there are those days, like today, where I want nothing more than to be home with my kiddos.

We woke up this morning to 6 inches of fresh snow. It was pretty and all, but honestly, I am SO over snow after Christmas. So, I enjoyed my usual chaotic morning of throwing myself together while little people tugged on my pant legs and begged me to pay attention to them. Then, I proceeded to brush snow off the car (our little, ghetto car since Andy was going to be home with the kiddos today and needed our mom&popmobile) and very carefully head off to work. Mind you, the roads hadn't been plowed yet. Five minutes from home I got stuck on a snow berm and had to use a dust pan (what it was doing in the car, I have no idea) to dig myself out. Then, I slid through a 4 way stop, nearly causing a collision. But God is good, and in the end I made it to work safely.

The rest of my day consisted of too much stress to handle (and over NOTHING that truly matters to me) and a stream of text message photos from my hubby of the kids playing in the snow. WAAAAAAAAAAAA! I wanna play in the snow, too! No fair! Yes, there was a fair share of feeling sorry for myself today.

Oh the joys of being a working parent. But ya know what? All of the stress and frustration from work melted as soon as I walked through the door tonight and was bombarded with a chatty 3 year old and drooling, smiley toddler. I've spent my evening showering my littles with love and making the most of our time together. One thing being a working momma does afford me is the ability to never take a moment of my time with my children for granted. Each second is precious to me and I'm so grateful for the time that I do have.

FYI... I apologize if you happened to visit my blog earlier today or late last night and saw a new, strange, contentless blog. I am in the process of designing a new space for my blog via Wordpress and I had a little mix up switching my domain over to my new web host. I am clueless as to what I am doing, so bear with me. Hopefully my blog's new home will be ready soon! :-)

I have moments like that too where I wish I could be home more, but I know myself and I'm just not the type of person who can stay home full time.  Although, I could live without the commute and having to wake up at the ass crack of dawn.

  2. I felt the same way over winter break. Chris was at home with the kids, and I was stuck at work. I do have a window, but it faces a metal building 5 feet away. We I first went back to work it was kind of nice to be away from Hayes, and not have to worry about him crying (haha) now that he is getting older, I just want to spend all of my time with him. I feel like it is definitely getting harder being a working mom. Then it kills me because we are working towards me staying home, but I am still going to miss out on Hayes when he is little. Ah this being a parent thing is rough!

  3. I started back to work today, after a three-week vacation. I was wishing that I could spend just one more day at home, to care for the house and my kiddos. It is definitely a balancing act.

  4. I am sure there must be many days that it is hard to be away from those two amazing kiddos of yours. And it definitely looks/sounds like today was one of those days. Sorry it was a rough one :( But you are right to look at the positive in the end and remember that the moments you do have with your kids are extra special and you don't take any of that time for granted. While being with Alidia all day, everyday, sometimes I probably do take it a bit for granted and that just isn't right. Enjoy those precious moments with them! :) Hopefully you'll get some fun in the snow with them on the weekend!!

  7. Yes, I will definitely enjoy some fun with the kiddos this weekend! AND, we just booked a trip to Hawaii in March, so I'm definitely looking forward to a solid week of family time. :-) As always, thank you so much for your comments Fiona!

  8. Sometimes I wonder if taking time off is really worth it because it breaks the routine and it's like starting all over again when you're back at work. Sigh.

  9. Yeah, I think it's the hardest when I know that Andy is home with the kids and I'm stuck in the office. I am SO grateful that he gets that time with him, but I just want to be with them AND him, too.

  10. I'm with ya girl. I am SO not stay at home mom material, but at the same time that's what I want more than anything. However, I think that after a couple weeks I would be dying to get away. I wish I could just figure myself out already! :)

  11. For sure! When Chris and I are both working I just caulk it up to we are both doing the best we can to support our family. But Chris works construction so he was off almost the whole month of December, that was rough. Especially after Christmas, when I had gotten used to my 5 days off, then I had to go back, and they were still at home. =( Oh well we do what we have to do.
